Bodywork
We believe that Hyperbaric Therapy is the quickest and most effective way to reduce inflammation, restore proper blood flow and promote quicker healing and recovery. Along with Hyperbaric Therapy the right approach to bodywork can really help expedite the bodies healing processes. Lack of oxygen is a typical issue in most injuries, illnesses and body disfunction. We help clients assess, recognize and remedy issues with posture and anatomically incorrect joint and bone positioning that can restrict the diaphragm’s ability to expand and compress, which then restricts oxygen intake. We take on average between 16,000 and 22,000 breaths a day! If you are missing even 5% of the diaphragms full capabilities, just imagine how much oxygen you are missing out on! Coupled alongside of proper breath, is restoring anatomically correct positioning to the pelvis and ribcage. When the pelvis and ribcage are not in the correct position there will always be compensatory changes in the lumbar, thoracic and cervical areas of the spine, and this create imbalances that can cause shoulder, knee or back pain, or create pain in varying patterns throughout the body. For those that want solutions that can last for a lifetime, in 4 to 6 sessions we can typically mitigate the majority of pain and problems while creating a breath work and movement pattern routine that allows clients to continue the work on their own. We see some clients for only 2 sessions that reap enough improvement and knowledge to get back to their daily routines pain free and maintain this on their own!
Typically massage would be rated for effectiveness on these levels……..
Level one - basic massage, swedish, reiki, etc
Level two - deep tissue massage, pressure point
Level three - deep tissue massage, pressure point, trigger point, and passive movement (therapist moves the client)
Level four - deep tissue, pressure point, trigger point, and active movement (client moves under their own power)
Level five - Neuromuscular massage, fascial release, myofascial release, deep tissue, trigger point etc with active and passive
Specialty Bodywork / Neuromuscular / Myoneural Massage
Our Specialty Bodywork, looked at from a broad aspect as Neuromuscular Massage, has been put into practice for over 15 years on athletes of all levels, from high school through professional levels of play, and the general population ages 5-78. Our sessions incorporate site specific fascial release protocols such as our neck capsule release that works through 3 layers of fascial release on and around the neck, as well as Graston Technique treatments, deep tissue therapy and muscle stripping. We focus on pain relief, restoring range of motion and returning the body to the correct postural and functional position improving everyday movement mechanics. Combined with corrective stretches and simple exercises that reinforce the corrections made through bodywork we can work on restoring optimal movement and health. Our top priority is finding resolution to movement, mechanical and pain driven body issues!
What a typical treatment protocol consists of:
Session #1 - 90 minute assessment session - in your first session we will go through a detailed history of all physical trauma from childhood to present. Athletic injuries, falls, accidents, etc. Go through a number of different movement screens designed to determine whether your pelvis and body are turned to the right or the left and see how this turn is impacting the extremities. We will design and implement a few simple pattern and breathwork drills that you can use at home to start unwinding the spine and repositioning the pelvis which will accelerate our progress in the office and your progression to getting issues resolved. Time permitting we will do some specific tissue work to accentuate the drills we implemented.
Session #2 - 60-90 minute session - in your second session, time will be determined on an individual basis. For some we will need a full 90, for others we will be ready to go into the 60 minute sessions. This session will consist of a few additional movement screens, some retesting to see if we have been moving the right direction, checking your original drills to make sure we are implementing and emphasizing the correct pieces, and modifying or changing the drills when needed. Typically about half of this session, sometimes a little more will be put towards specific hands on tissue work.
Session #3-#6 - 60 minute sessions - in your third through sixth session we will use the first 10 to 15 minutes when needed to go back through the home drills and add or modify drills when needed. 45 minutes will be used for tissue specific work now that we have more than likely nailed down the primary issues and use tissue specific work to accelerate the process of changes that need to occur to restore the correct position to the pelvis and ribcage, and eliminate the specific movement and/or pain issue you have been dealing with. Once we get you to a comfortable point of homeostasis, it is the clients decision on how to continue. We have some clients that come in a frequently as once a week for continued tune ups, bi-weekly for new movement drills, monthly for tune ups and clients who only come back when they suffer setbacks or new issues or injuries. The approach and decision is up to you!

"THE END OF AN ICE AGE" - over the past 15 years we have advocated to athletes that ICE and rest is not the way to go with ankle sprains and other minor injuries. As the clash between east and west medicine heats up, we continue to gain support in our pursuit of better training and repair modalities. Unfortunately western medicine has continued to support the brace it, cut it, bandage it, and medicate it theories as opposed to actually addressing the true concern or root of the problem.
Working with a lot of collegiate, professional and aspiring volleyball players we have dealt with a lot of ankle issues. The ankle is a mobility joint by nature, therefore it should be mobile. When players turn ankles, unless something has been broken or actually torn, they need to get back on that ankle. Initial ice and rest only slows healing and recovery down. Our winter crest protocol along with compression and mobility work pursuing the quick restoration of the full range of motion has gotten players back in weeks after nasty ankle sprains, not months.
